2 Headers and a Win!

A very light update this weekend I’m afraid as neither of us could attend yesterdays game in Yamanashi so we only have the highlight reel below to go on. Sorry guys.

Heading off the back of 4 straight wins in a row, Saturday’s game saw us face off against Yamanashi prefecture’s Ventforet Kofu in the second round of Nabisco group stage matches. As is typical with fixtures in this tournament, many teams like to give their younger players a bit of playing time under competitive conditions so this week we saw Fabio make another return to the starting eleven alongside the long-injured Amano in defence. Amano is somewhat of a fan favourite so it’s great to see him overcome the leg injury that kept him off the pitch for almost a year, and finally don his number 2 jersey again. Welcome back Ama!

Fujita has recorded a reasonable amount of playing time thus far this season so he seemed the logical choice to replace the currently suspended Marquinhos. Though he seemed to enjoy some decent chances it was Hyodo that scored in the first half after running into the box to connect with a cross from Manabu Saito. It wasn’t a spectacular looking goal but it served it’s purpose as Hyodo ran in to nod it back across the face of the goal and inside the far post.

Nakamachi also opened his goal account in the second half after capitalizing on a Nakamura free kick, as he jumped high on the near post to tuck the ball into the top right corner to extend the away team’s lead in the 52nd minute. F.Marinos 2 Ventforet 0.

Naturally, we are delighted with the result but this season’s first real test will be next weekend when we play host to an in-form FC Tokyo side. Their squad is littered with F.Marinos defectors (well, only 2) in both Watanabe and Aria who have good knowledge of how we play so it’s bound to be a tough game. Can we really win every game in March? We’re just gonna have to wait and see…

Here’s the highlights:

F.Marinos Starting XI: Enomoto, Amano, Nakazawa, Fabio, Dutra, Nakamachi, Tomisawa, Hyodo, Nakamura, Saito, and Fujita.

F.Marinos Substitions: Hyodo → Sato (74), Saito → Hanato (77), Nakamura → Dong Ho (89)

Goals: Hyodo (23), Nakamachi (52)
