Shimizu S. Pulse 0 – 0 Yokohama F. Marinos

1 point from a dull draw in an away game at Shimizu was a fair result from what can only be considered as a lost opportunity for some players looking to make their mark in the absence of talismanic midfielder Nakamura

It was perphaps surprising to see Aria chosen in the role as ‘replacement Shunsuke’ to sure up the midfield in his absence andto provide the playmaking role for the two-pronged attack up front. It unceremoniously failed, though not all the blame should lie at the feet of Aria. It was just not a night that you would choose to right an article about.

Along with the commentators who were making alot of the lack of shots on goal from the Marinos, I was getting extremely frustrated by the lack of production of opportunities. It only really changed when Kano was bought on and then the game seemed to flow for the Marinos a little more. It begs the question why he would only get a measly 20 odd minutes to produce something? But still the clear stat that sticks out at you like a hairy mole on an unblemished face was the ‘Shots’ stat. A measly 4 was all that could be mustered for the game.

Taniguchi was the man most unlucky on the day with his well constucted opportunity hitting the crossbar at full fury. It had been a great passing interplay involving several players and was a breath of freshair from the more speculative long through balls that had presented the team with the other two good opportunities.

So, there you go. When you produce very little to write about, and dont even use all 3 subs you will be left to rue opportunity.

But hey, perhaps they were only playing for a draw!

See here for the lowlights:

We should have started with Kano as a straight swap for Shunsuke, and Aria on in place of Oguro. Not sure how Taniguchi didn’t put that chance away, either. Sigh.

    Dear friends!

Do you know where I can but a Marinos’ jersey for a cheap price?
By the way, i’m brazilian and my team’s nickname is Tricolor (São Paulo)
