Nabisco Cup: Yokohama F.Marinos 1-1 Vissel Kobe

A decent crowd of 8000+ were in good spirits at Nippatsu Mitsuzawa Stadium as Yokohama F.Marinos met Vissel Kobe for the 1st leg of a shortened Nabisco Cup. Though not the sellout that people were expecting, the crowd were treated to some positive football throughout the match from the home team which is probably why the crowd left the stadium rather dissatisfied after conceding a late equalizer.

Iikura did well to save the home-team blushes early when he managed to get an outstretched hand to the ball, after a good through pass beat the high defensive line.

The Marinos were again guilty of not making the most of opportunities. The first half saw a couple of attacking runs that saw a flurry of shots on goal. Nakamura had the best chance to put one in but slammed it into the woodwork.

After the break it was more of the same, but it took until the 74th minute to break the deadlock. Aoyama got his first of the season when he put a good cross from Kano straight into the path of the keeper at pace. The fumbled deflection it took had enough on it to spin in the back of the net and Marinos had the lead.

However, with the clock running down, the failure of the Marinos to put the game beyond reach would be costly. Playing deep into injury time Kobe snatched an away goal and a draw.

Rogerinho, with a name that although Brazilian, sounds more like something an exciteable Ned Flanders would say, proved to make prior predictions true. His work on the ball and eye for space with some jinking runs, created a nuisance at times and it was disappointing when in the dying minutes of the game he put one in the back of the onion bag to give the Kobe supporters something to keep them happy for their trip home
